Excerpts from our exclusive interview with Anjali:
We are aware of your contributions to the ecosystem; talk us through your background and your journey, please;
My professional journey so far has been very enriching and fulfilling. It has panned for over 15 years and going.
As soon as I finished my Post Graduation in Sports Science and Nutrition from S.N.D T University Juhu, I wanted to do something which aligns with my goals and passion so I started consulting.
I started my journey with Talwalkar’s Gym and then moved to my private practice. So far I have catered to over 5,000 + clientele. It feels like I have just started and my passion keeps me going. It is now my vision to help as many people as possible to lead a positive and healthy lifestyle.
How did you discover your passion as a ‘Nutritionist’?
I was destined to be a Nutritionist and no one else, I realised this since I was 15.
I was an obese kid myself and battled childhood obesity for a good 3 to 4 years.
It was after I finished my 10th grade, I realized I need to take care of myself first and that’s when I began my journey of weight loss and in the process realised that this is what I want to do.”
Make more and more people aware that it’s not that difficult and with the right guidance, one can achieve any goal.
How do you manage to keep going despite the challenges? What drives you?
In today’s time when more and more people are aware about the importance of health and a plethora of information is also available online, but despite all of that it’s very challenging to make sure that they have the right and reliable information and access of right guidance according to their lifestyle.
I want to add value to my clients’ life and that keeps me going. It drives me to continue doing what I am doing with full energy and positivity.
My biggest driving factor is my passion and love for my profession.”
I do not take it as work, I take consulting as meditation, I have the knowledge to help people and I want to do that in the best possible way.
Who do you believe has been the biggest source of motivation in your daily life?
My biggest source of motivation has been my Mother, she always makes me aware of my positive points and constantly encourages me to follow my passion.
It was she who also made my journey of weight loss very easy, otherwise, at that age I see many young teenagers develop low self-esteem due to being overweight.
Apart from my parents, my husband and in-laws have also been extremely supportive and understanding which is what motivates me each day to go out there and face the real world.
What are the business mantras you have embraced as you sought to establish your success story?
Getting the right opportunity and performing to the best of your capability when you get that opportunity.
What are some of the strategies that you believe have helped you grow as a person?
There are a few:
> Being mindful
> Be ready to make a few sacrifices
> Ability to stay calm and put your head down and work, no matter how long it takes to achieve your goal.
> Awareness of what’s trending in the field of Nutrition and Diet as it’s a field which keeps coming up with something new every day.
Please share with us, how do you motivate your clients?
My main focus is to help my clients understand the true benefits of eating wholesome and leading a life that’s more complete.
Not focusing only on one aspect of your life but to focus on life in general as a whole. I customize each plan after thoroughly understanding my client’s lifestyle and health history.
I congratulate them on every small victory no matter how small their achievement might be and remind them that every small step counts.
You are always positive and motivated, what keeps you going?
My motivation comes from the love and passion that I have for my profession. When my clients share the difference they feel and the positive effect the diet has on their minds and body that is what keeps me going.
You do have your days when you don’t feel so positive or motivated due to external or internal hurdles so on those days I just like to take some time off to retrospect and unwind.”
Sometimes you get too attached to the end result or your client’s goal and that can suck you in a vortex of feeling low.
I just keep those things aside and breathe, when I re-access the situation after some ‘me-time’ I realize that it’s just a temporary situation and the bigger picture is way better.
In your opinion what are the keys to success?
There is no key to success in my opinion, the harder you work, the more success you get and that applies to anything and everything.
What advice would you give students and young professionals who want to have a successful career?
My only advice would be there are no shortcuts to success, you need to put in your hard work, make a few sacrifices (quite a few), stay updated as ours is an ever-evolving field and most importantly don’t take yourself too seriously.
