Excerpts from our exclusive interview with Ashish:
Tell us a little bit about yourself and your startup, please.
I graduated in Electronics and Communication Engineering from NIT Durgapur and did my MBA in International Business. Post this, I started working with research firms in Gurgaon including IHS, Wolters Kluwer, Evalueserve. While working for Microsoft at Evalueserve, I developed a keen understanding of data and numbers. This is where my journey to Analytics started. Later, I joined Global Data and decided to do an executive program in Business Analytics from NMIMS. I also completed a short course in Analytics from IIT Hyderabad.
While doing the programs, I thought of mixing my passion which is content and research with the knowledge I was gaining in Analytics and I established Analytics Insight while still doing the programs.

Why did you choose entrepreneurship over a job?
I always wanted to follow my passion since the beginning of my career, but call it a lack of industry experience and funding which always deterred me to start my own venture. During my 15 years of career, I worked with different companies thinking to work on the role I like the best. However, I was not completely satisfied with sometimes the business processes or the way things were going on. This is when I decided to start my entrepreneurship journey and do what I love the most.
What gets you out of bed in the morning i.e. what’s your source of motivation?
My biggest source of motivation in my work. I always believe that success doesn’t come overnight. It is a mix of hard work, perseverance, learning, sacrifice and most of all, loving what you do. Also, I am a creative person, I used to paint and sketch and won several competitions on it. Although I don’t do it now, it helps me to blend creativity in thinking and often influences the work in a positive way. I would definitely say, creativity also keeps me motivated.
What challenges/obstacles did you face in your journey so far?
For me, my first obstacle was to quit my corporate job and move to entrepreneurship. While the transition was not easy, I was certain that the experience I gained in my corporate life will help me come up with a platform that would help companies make an impact in the market.
The industry analysis we created witnessed a lot of traction in a few months and we were receiving over one million visitors a month within a short span of time. The second obstacle I faced was to get on board people who resonate the vision which I have. I am fortunate to have a very good and experienced team of people with rich qualifications and industry experience that helped Analytics Insight shape the journey so far.
Tell our audience more about your failures? How should one bounce back?
I failed a lot in my life. Initially, these failures used to take a toll on me emotionally. However, with each failure, I learned things which otherwise success wouldn’t have taught me. I believe failure shows you your true potential and helps you to strategise and improve things no matter how many times you have to try to succeed and bounce back in life.
What comes first for you – money or emotions?
I am an emotional person and strongly feel that positive emotions and mindset will give you the courage and confidence to build a successful business. Money is obviously important to run a business but one should not give a priority to it instead focus on creating value and the rest will follow.
How do you handle the pressure and manage stress?
I exercise regularly which gives me a good amount of resistance to bear the pressure and stress I go through. Besides this, I love reading a lot of books. They give me strength and different perspective towards life and help me ease out stress.
What advice would you give to someone starting out, particularly to aspiring entrepreneurs?
I would advise aspiring entrepreneurs to mix their passion for ideas and concepts. One of my Professors who taught us analytics recommended us reading the book called, “The Medici Effect” which explores why the most powerful innovation happens at the “Intersection,” where ideas and concepts from diverse industries, cultures, and disciplines collide. This has actually helped me shape my journey as an entrepreneur. Besides this, I feel entrepreneurs should trust their instincts, try unconventional things, learn from others, and know that it’s better to take a chance to achieve your dreams.
