Let’s learn more about his inspiring journey and his advice for our growing community!
Excerpts from our exclusive interview with Dilip:
Talk us through your background and your journey as an entrepreneur, please;
I did B.Des in Animation, Graduated in 2013. I belong to the Concept Artist/Digital illustrator Background and I worked as a Comic illustrator initially for Comic Books when I was in 2nd year of my graduation at the age of 19. Sketching and Illustration is my passion and it has always been.
My journey is too long to explain here. Lots of twists and turns happened. I took the experience of this entertainment design as a student, professional, as an Assistant Professor and then as an entrepreneur for the last one and half year.”
In 2019, I founded a startup named KREIVA INTERACTIVE and designated it Chief Executive officer and founder. Kreiva Interactive is one of the emerging media entertainment design firm that offers the entire range of entertainment design services like storyboarding, Concept art and Visual Development for Feature films, Animation movies, Video games and TV Commercials.
Why did you choose entrepreneurship over a corporate career?
I have chosen entrepreneurship over a corporate career because I had in my mind to do, from the very beginning during my graduation days.
1 – I encountered a few problems and dissatisfaction with the working process when things were not happening the way it has to be in my stream.
2 – I just always wanted to focus on brainstorming and creating the concepts which I was not getting the opportunity in India, in the past days
3 – I always wanted to take this entertainment design stream to the next level in India, Which was not possible for me to do as an employee of any company, for that I had to be at the highest post in the company. Still, I am struggling to saturate the entertainment design stream in India.
If you are not getting a satisfactory path to walk, rather than compromising with it. You should make some extra effort, construct your own path so that you will walk smoothly for a long time because it’s your constructed path, which was constructed according to your need and desire.”
Please share with us some of the challenges you faced in your journey;
Obviously, it’s a start-up firm, not very much recognised. Vision is very different, concepts art very different(in India).not getting relevant manpower to multiply the productivity and serving more and more results and yes we do have solutions also, that we are working on it. If you are not getting the relevant manpower, “yes it happens when you start something which is a very new thing”, you have to generate the manpower by giving them training and providing them skills according to your requirement so it takes time also to bring that into shape. you have to wait by having the patience to transform them into productive, this stream is not very much aware by the people so we are promoting the stream apart from doing projects, so these kinds of complications we are facing to make it saturated.
So to overcome these things, now we are Interacting with Animation schools. We share our working procedures, skills, we designed and provided vocation course to them, we provide internships to them. As we are making them sync with us so that when they will pass out from their colleges and institutes, they will come up with the industrial experience and in future, we will get good and satisfactory manpower.
During this COVID-19 crisis, what are the measures you have undertaken to continue your business without disruption?
All we need is a good configured laptop/Desktop, mouse, graphic tablet and a good internet connection, now these days hotspot is ok for these things in our business. So people can work from home, we are temporarily having Cloud office and meetings via Google meet or zoom.
Digital productions like animation movies, Digital commercials and E-learning are on a hike in this pandemic situation, that’s why It doesn’t affect us much.
How do you handle the pressure and manage stress?
It’s upon you, how do deal with the things
Option A – Take things in a challenging way or as a milestone
Option B – Take things like stress and Pressure
Stress only raises your blood pressure as it doesn’t reduce your problems. So I usually choose Option B. When you are really passionate about what you are doing, then you will not feel stress and pressure.
Given the rapid pace at which the world is changing, what are the leadership traits that are necessary for success?
I think everything is on these 3 steps:
1 – Consolidated Vision and proper calculation for both long term and short term goals/Tasks.
2 – Choices of your decision (As decision making is a key part for leaders)
3 – Try to have a look at your company from a client as well as the employee’s point of view( means think about their welfare)
We would love to know your advice for all those starting out as an aspiring entrepreneur?
Intense hard work is good, but doing intense hard work on the right track will be result oriented. You should have a consolidated constructed path of what to and how to do before starting out. Once your vision for your start will be consolidated, then go for it. but before starting it out. Do the proper analysis rather than choosing it by trend.
