Excerpts from our exclusive interview with Dipti:
We are aware of your contributions to the ecosystem; talk us through your background and your journey, please;
Being a qualified BA in economics and possessing a passion for art I tried many career options apart from taking up part-time jobs during college and fulfilling my passion of art by being a well-known Mehandi artist in my college days which brought me a bridal contract from overseas and I made my first ever foreign trip to Portugal.
Post college, I worked as a data manager in Narains corporation. Later on, I switched over to a better opportunity of working as a front desk executive in a Vodafone shop then known as Orange.
However, I finally settled on being an Interior Designer. Successfully, accomplished many residential projects along with a couple of clinics and spas. One of my projects found a little space in the interior magazine, Dubai and India publication.
A certain shift in my personal life compelled me to make a shift in my career. Being a passionate artist and having a flare for styling and grooming I thought of taking up image consultancy.”
Loving this profession which makes me travel, meet new people from different walks of life while I share the little knowledge I have regarding image building and grooming. So from designing interiors to designing images. I’m loving the journey!
How did you discover your passion in ‘Training’?
During my training period in Orange as a front desk executive, we were made to undergo a 2 day grooming and Etiquette session which I totally loved. I
It was a very new concept then. Learnt a lot from that training and was totally awestruck by the way it was conducted.”
Being an avid follower of etiquette and mannerisms, I at my threshold period in life could only think of switching my career to being a trainer myself for something I strongly believe in and follow. So here, I am a very promising image consultant.
How do you manage to keep going despite the challenges? What drives you?
Facing challenges is a part of living. I believe if one is passionate about what one does, there’s never a dull moment.
Who do you believe has been the biggest source of motivation in your daily life?
There are many who have supported me unconditionally however the biggest source of motivation for me has been my want and greed to be known, to be heard, to be seen, as a professional trainer and a stylist. These wants and greed has made everything possible for me.
What are some of the strategies that you believe have helped you grow as a person?
There are a few:
> Being mindful
> Always being resourceful
> Taking extreme ownership and responsibility for my actions Courage
> Ability to take risks & venture into uncharted territories.
> To follow the belief of ‘Live and Let Live’
Please share with us, how do you motivate your clients?
I truly believe in “Walk the Talk”. Which means at all times I should sound, look and behave authentically and true to my words and belief.
When I stand in front of my audience/friends/prospective clients talking and introducing myself as an image consultant, I always look authentic through my appearance and conduct to be able to motivate them to hire me for their consultation.
It’s simple, Like if a dietician does not look fit, no one will visit him/her for diet tips. Similarly, if my image is not strong no one would want to hire Me either. So practising what we Preach Should be the business/work mantra.
You are always positive and motivated, what keeps you going?
I wouldn’t say, I’m positive at all times. I too have days when I think otherwise, I feel uncertain of my future too and all this though is temporary, due to the fear of the unknown which is present in every human.
However, I do try to cope up on those days by talking to my best pals, the ones who know me in and out, the ones who can bring me out from that grey zone into the positivity.
These people keep me positive and motivated along with my nature to face and fight all odds.
In your opinion what are the keys to success?
I will say it straight that there are many factors but if you really have to have the key elements then to me these are the ones:
– Accepting & Loving myself.
– Responsibility for my actions
– Standing up for myself
– Resourcefulness
– To be an avid learner.
– Positive Attitude
– Taking massive action (execution) with consistency and belief
– Being flexible
What advice would you give students and young professionals who want to have a successful career?
I would say people should know what they want in life.
So follow these steps:
(1) Set your goals
(2) Identify your targets.
(3) Hunt for resources that will help you reach your target.
(4) Build connections
(5) Start communication
(6) Follow up
(7) Provide your services
(8) Last but very important take feedbacks for improvement.
If one sets this right then it’s impossible to stop anyone from growing.
Last but not least, what about your journey makes it satisfying/exciting?
Getting great feedback from those who have been inspired through my social media content, through my coaching sessions/programs amps up my energy to deliver more value to them.
Seeing their image change, makes it satisfying because I see their success as my success and their breakthroughs as mine.
