Excerpts from our exclusive interview with Dr Niranjan:
Tell us about Mittal Astrology and your journey so far?
Mittal Astrology is the culmination of 4 decades of dedication, research and deep-rooted faith in the power of accurately drawn birth chart (Kundali) for future predictions and analysis. We have always followed a systematic and scientific approach based on extensive research by studying the characteristics of nakshatras (constellations) to analyse their effects on the Grahas (planets) in their domain. This approach allows us to understand the effects of Dasha’s, thus helping in narrowing down favourable and unfavourable time periods in the field of astrology.
Over the last 40 years, we have consulted over 250,000 clients and it gives me immense joy to have been able to offer accurate guidance to them in the matters of career, finance, health, relationships etc.
Moreover, contrary to the popular misconception, the science of Astrology has been in demand even in western countries. We have thousands of clients from the USA and Europe who have benefited from our astrological guidance.
Is astrology a science? Why did you choose astrology over others?
Astrology relies heavily on mathematical calculations and observation of astronomical objects. One wouldn’t dare question the scientific nature of mathematics or astronomy. Why should one be so apprehensive about astrology then? It indeed is a science. Moreover, it has a long-standing tradition of handing down knowledge. From the times when there were no instruments to observe the space that surrounds us, the discipline of Astrology has not only survived, but it has thrived.
Having said that, I also feel the need for regulations to be implemented in the field of astrology. Perhaps a regulatory body will contribute towards standardization of practices, add more authenticity to the quality of practitioners and do away with those who simply perform trickery in the name of astrology. Like every other profession, any and every practitioner of astrology must also be a certified one. For something that has otherwise stood the test of time, astrology has suffered gravely at the hands of those who lack the knowledge and yet offer inaccurate readings and solutions. Hope is the basis of human life.
As scientists, it should be our moral responsibility to uphold the legacy of this branch of ancient sciences.
My path was long decided. I was quite certain that I wanted to pursue a career that had something to do with balance sheets. The only difference being, instead of financial balance sheets, I chose to study and understand the balance sheet of human life and how astrology caused a stir in those otherwise mundane looking balance sheets.
I had been silently observing my father Mr Shashibhushan Mittal; one of the most renowned astrologers of this time; counsel, guide and offer comfort to numerous people. I began self-teaching using the book “Jyotish Cintamani”, authored by my father, while I was still a young adult. Both of my parents were not only surprised but truly happy about my interest and dedication towards the subject. I vividly recall the day when my father sat down with me right after the book incident and asked a lot of questions. I answered those to the best of my ability and he was more than happy, one could tell looking at his face. That’s when he told me that he would teach me more about it during my upcoming vacations and since then, I have been his disciple more than his son.
One can never get the right readings without taking these seven most important components into consideration: Grah, Rashi, Nakshatra, Charan, Sthan, Yuti and Dasha. These are essential to getting a personalised reading from a horoscope.
What made you passionate about astrology?
There is literally nothing about Astrology that isn’t fascinating! Just the idea of exploring life further with the help of astrology, enriching life, moving towards finding the greater purpose in life and all of this through the study and use of astrology, does it not seem bewitching to you? Our ancient science of astrology is something that we all must cherish. It has the key to all the problems and hardships one might face in their life. However, the modern world seems to scoff at it sometimes due to lack of understanding.
Only those who are able to harness the true power of astrology know that it is what one may call, magical. It can turn around lives and fortunes, and that’s what we, at Mittal Astrology, offer to our patrons.
Should people believe in destiny? Can it be altered? How about your own belief system?
Destiny is something that we often keep alternating between believing and not believing in. In my experience, I have come to realise that destiny is a combination of a constant and a variable, much like a mathematical equation. A certain set of outcomes are guaranteed, not depending on what steps one takes. Your birth determines this major 75% of life.”
However, our actions and their consequences do shape our future. This variable plays only 25% part in it. An accurate horoscope has the power to reveal a lot more than one can imagine.
