At Brilliant Read Media, it is our constant endeavour to identify and share some of the unique and compelling stories from the startup ecosystem. As part of this, we invited Dr Roopa Lakshmi Bhat for an interview with Brilliant Read Media. To say further, Dr Roopa is an Entrepreneur, Architect and Founder of RLB + Architects. Let’s learn more about her background, inspiring journey so far and her advice for our growing community!
Excerpts from our exclusive interview with Dr Roopa:
Could you please talk us through your background and your journey?
I am a wellness consultant and architect with over 25 years of experience, blending science, design, and holistic healing. I hold a professional degree in Yoga and Naturopathy—a rigorous 5.5-year medical course—as well as a degree in Architecture.
My journey has always been about integrating the therapeutic potential of spaces with the wisdom of natural healing. From designing hospitals to curating wellness retreats, I now focus on creating environments that nourish mind, body, and spirit.
Currently, I’m pursuing a Master’s in Construction and Project Management at the age of 47 to further bridge the gap between technical precision and human-centered design.
‘RLB + Architects’ is such a unique name; talk us through more about it, please. Our audience would also love to know what kind of problem you are solving?
‘RLB + Architects’ stands for Roopa Lakshmi Bhat and a collective of thinkers, creators, and healers. We focus on crafting spaces that heal—emotionally, spiritually, and ecologically.
Our work addresses the disconnection between built environments and human well-being. From sensory-sensitive homes to eco-conscious retreats, we help people reconnect with nature and themselves through mindful design.
Despite the challenges, what keeps you going when things get tough?
My inner belief in healing through compassion, community, and space design is my compass. I am inspired by the possibility of helping others transform their lives.
We focus on joy, empathy, and the courage to be vulnerable. My work is deeply personal—it is a calling. This vision keeps me moving forward even during the hardest times.
What are the three most important lessons you have learned in your life?
a) Love and acceptance are healing forces.
b) True companionship is rare and priceless. The right people show up when you stop trying to fit in and start embracing your authentic self.
c) Vulnerability isn’t weakness; it’s a superpower. Embracing it has brought me deeper connections, creativity, and courage.
In your opinion, what are the keys to success?
1) Loving and trusting yourself
2) Owning your actions with clarity
3) Standing up for your beliefs
4) Being resourceful and open-hearted
5) Staying curious and consistent
6) Believing in something greater than yourself
7) Success isn’t a destination—it’s a way of living with integrity and intention.
What advice would you give students and young professionals who want to have a successful career?
Think of your career as a living organism—it grows, adapts, and evolves. Be curious, courageous, and compassionate. Take the time to know your strengths, build meaningful connections, and invest in personal wellness.
Success will follow when you work from alignment, not just ambition. And don’t be afraid to pause, reflect, or pivot—it’s all part of the journey.
Last but not least, what about your journey makes it satisfying/exciting?
What truly excites me is witnessing transformation—whether it’s a space becoming a sanctuary or a person reclaiming their wholeness.
My work has been recognized nationally, but more than recognition, it’s the heartfelt messages, the quiet breakthroughs, and the smiles of healing that fuel me. The journey is sacred, and I’m grateful to be living mine with purpose.
