Dr Smita Ghosh is an Entrepreneur, Leader, Psychologist, Healer, Researcher, Coach and Mentor. She is the Founder & Director of Mi Merak. Excerpts from our exclusive interview with Dr Smita:
Talk us through your background and your journey, please.
My professional journey so far has helped me cross-pollinate ideas across a wide variety of industry sectors, including Alternate Healing, Psychosocial Counseling, Content Development, Research Writing, Coaching for Happiness (Navigator), Empathy and Founder of Mi Merak.
I followed an academic path, graduating in commerce from Mumbai University at the same time pursuing Computers from Aptech.
But I always had a passion for helping people and making a difference and thanks to my curious nature, strong innate healing abilities and healing sense led me to learn Reiki and other alternative modalities of therapies.”
At only 17 years I completed Reiki – Master level. Further, I also completed the 3rd level in Hypnotherapy from the EKAA foundation.
Later my aspiration to discover and learning new things led to pursuing MA in psychology after almost a gap of 12 years.
A quote which I truly believe in is – ‘Dreams don’t work unless you take action.”
I dreamed of becoming a Doctor and it became a reality when I completed my PhD.
How did you discover your passion in ‘Psychology’?
Through iterative planning intertwined with continuous shifts in execution. Over the last 25 years, I have taken up numerous projects in my areas of interest.
In due course of time, these initiatives helped me identify the areas of my Core Passion – Psychology. Though the transition from commerce background to psychology was not sudden.
Reiki was the start of my journey in that direction. During pursuing MA in psychology, I felt that I have a gift of understanding the psyche of humans and then I felt it was my duty to bring a massive change in society simply by following my journey as a holistic mental health therapist.”
I have also completed a Certificate course in Special Education and a diploma in mental health from Nimhans Digital Academy.
I specialize in CBT, Positive Psychology, and counselling techniques to improve psychological and mental health. I am also a happy life coach.
I have also done a Certificate Course in Emotional Development in Children from DDF Social e-Learning (backed by European Association for Distance Learning Spain) and Certificate Course in Leading Change: Go Beyond Gamification with Gameful Learning – University of Michigan (Online).
