At BrilliantRead Media, it is our constant endeavour to bring meaningful and powerful stories from India and around the world to empower and motivate our growing community. As part of this, we invited Falguni Patil for an exclusive interview with us. She is an Entrepreneur, Clinical Nutritionist and the Founder of Olive Nutrition. Let’s learn more about her incredible journey, background and advice for our growing community!
Excerpts from our exclusive interview with Falguni:
Could you please talk us through your background and your journey?
My passion for food and nutrition started when I was really young. During my academic journey, I got a lot of experience working in hospitals and NGOs as an intern which helped me a lot.
After completing my education I started my career by working in clinical settings. Working in these setups helped me to apply my theoretical knowledge and work with a diverse population dealing with all sorts of disorders and diseases.
With all the experience I wanted to help people and so I decided to take a bigger step in my career to start “Olive Nutrition”. My only aim was to be more accessible, and approachable and personalise all the services for all the unique needs of people.
Founding “Olive Nutrition” has been the best decision of my life as it makes me realise that I am able to help people and make health and well-being a priority in their lives.
How did you discover your passion?
I found my passion the moment I realised my father was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. I started reading more about genetic disorders, lifestyle and food. Growing up I also came to know that I was severely underweight and had gut issues.
I was only in 10th grade and dealing with severe acne, hormonal changes, painful periods, intolerances etc. This made me. I have a lot of questions about my health and the food I eat.
At a young age, I started being more conscious and then came across Nutrition and Dietetics after my 12th grade. I had to move from home and go to another city, study there for 5 years and finally when I had my master’s degree I knew that helping people be healthy was my only desire and passion in life.
Despite the challenges, what keeps you going when things get tough?
Challenges are very normal in any profession. What makes me deal with challenges every day is prioritising self-care, following a routine, taking a break, balancing work and family and also staying in touch with friends and loved ones.
I believe every setback has always pushed me to do better at my work. “Olive Nutrition” has been a driving force for me to work harder and achieve success.
What are the three most important lessons you have learned in your life?
– Patience and persistence
– Time is the most valuable resource
– Investing in health [both mental and physical]
In your opinion, what are the keys to success?
The ability to recover from failures and keep from becoming discouraged. Courage, love and commitment to work. Along with these, being consistent, having a positive mindset and having a positive attitude.
What advice would you give students and young professionals who want to have a successful career?
To have a successful career you need to explore your interests, strengths and weaknesses. Get into internships, and certificate courses to know what works best for you and that would also help you to upskill.
Be humble and patient while you learn something new. Give yourself enough time and do not be afraid to make mistakes. Mistakes help you learn new things.
Most importantly, career planning and networking will help you grow and develop in your respective field.
Last but not least, what about your journey makes it satisfying/exciting
Getting feedback from my clients, seeing them get better, teaching and training them through my sessions and programs.
Seeing a positive change in them and in their journey makes it satisfying because I see their success as my success. There is nothing more satisfying than seeing a smile on my client’s face.
