Excerpts from our exclusive interview with him:
Tell us a little bit about yourself and your startup please;
I am a chartered accountant professional and have 25+ years of experience in Consulting. Before starting out on my own, I led a 2100 people practice at KPMG as the National Head of Tax.
Transaction Square is a consultancy firm. We provide tax, business advisory and regulatory services. We specialize in Mergers and Acquisitions, Restructurings and help people succeed. I had a dream to form a big organization wherein we could create employment for people. Loads of people have the ability and need for a certain job but not the platform, so our idea was to pull all this talent together and create opportunities. Till today we’ve reached 140 people and expect to reach 1000 people in the next 3 years, so we’re creating jobs.
How do you find the industry/niche that you’re in?
Our industry is competitive, but full of opportunities. The evolving tax and regulatory framework and the complex global scenario create huge opportunities for us. However, it is essential to relentlessly pursue excellence and render quality services at all times to clients.
What gets you out of bed in the morning i.e. what’s your source of motivation?
Entrepreneurship is a very exciting journey. Every single day so far has been satisfying. Each day we have a new client, we’re doing bigger things and reaching new heights. The best feeling is seeing people who have trusted us and our work succeed and recommend us to others. That’s what drives me every day.
What helps you cope with challenges in your journey as an entrepreneur?
It is faith, belief and courage. There is a big entry barrier in entrepreneurship. People holding secure jobs find it very difficult to leave it for business. So if you have an idea that you believe you can do, you have to have the faith to do it and you won’t be alone in your venture- the universe will converge to help you achieve your goal. The idea should be good, and you should get a good team for its execution, then the clients should come.
What comes first for you – money or emotions?
I don’t think it is about money or emotions. Building a quality firm, respect from our clients and love from team-members are what matter to me more. We want to build something that lasts forever.
How do you handle the pressure and manage stress?
As long as you follow your passion and love what you do, everything which is pressurizing is a challenging and learning experience. Learning from it, rather than stressing about it.
What is one strategy that you believe has helped grow your startup?
In my journey so far, what has helped me immensely is the lean methodology. We are agile, always at it, and constantly endeavour to solve problems for our clients.
In your opinion what are the keys to entrepreneurial success?
To me, Passion and Perseverance are the keys. These Ps are the crucial ingredients to entrepreneurial success.
What advice would you give to aspiring entrepreneurs?
Have the courage to chase your dream and never give up. Never ever give up!
