We are aware of your contribution to the ecosystem, talk us through your background and your journey as a women investigator, please;
“Do you want to know who you are? Don’t ask. Act! Action will delineate and define you.” ―Thomas Jefferson
About 10 years back, when I was working with big corporates such as HDFC Bank, Genpact and many more. as a chartered accountant, I had a very comfortable life. Since I finished my CA in the first attempt, I got placed easily. At that time, sitting in comfortable offices, getting a good salary and climbing the ladders of corporate hierarchies, I never really knew what is my real passion and potential.”
Then slowly a point came in my life where I started questioning myself; what am I doing? is this really what I want to do all my life?
The answer came from within as “No”.
Once I got that clarity – I did not waste a single day and started my journey as a trainer and fraud investigator.
I realized that there is a huge gap in the employer’s expectation and employee skillset. The idea to start my new venture was to fill up the gap and to make the candidates more employable. I also ventured into the niche field called ‘ fraud detection’. This field was quite new back in 2011-12 in India, especially for women- it was almost unheard of.
I started my venture as ‘Kapp Edge Solutions Pvt Ltd.’. A company which specializes in skill enhancement in the field of risk, finance, fraud prévention and global qualifications. We train to corporates and working executives, and our clientele also includes govt departments, banks and law enforcement bodies like CBI, Custom, SFIO and many more.
By profession, I am a chartered accountant and a certified fraud investigator. I not only train on this subject but I am also involved in the consulting in the area of corporate fraud detection, cyber forensics, anti-money laundering and fraud prevention.”
This is the area which is considered to be a domain for men. With my passion and hard work, today, I am able to create my mark in this domain.
Apart from being an Executive director of Kapp edge, I am also associated with many other initiatives and organizations such as PHD chamber of commerce as a committee member of ‘corporate affairs committee’ and as deputy chairperson for Theia India-Delhi chapter.
I am also an integral part of many women initiatives such as ‘Womennovator’ which supports women entrepreneur with their journey.
It’s been an absolute challenging journey but the most satisfying ever in life. Today I am a homemaker, mother of cute/little son, an entrepreneur, an influencer, a consultant, trainer and passionate investigator.
How did you find your passion and purpose and started working with it?
Just like many people I was not aware of my passion and purpose. Of course, there was something missing in life. There was something which was telling me to look in a new direction for a new journey.
The corporate life was a rewarding journey however the real satisfaction was missing. Today, when I train thousands of people across the globe, I get a deep sense of achievement in their success, their knowledge enhancement and their gratitude.”
The best compliment I have received was: “Madam, you have changed my life. I am what I am, because of you”
This satisfaction, I could never achieve in corporate hierarchies.
What gets you out of bed in the morning i.e. what’s your source of motivation?
‘The inspiration to impact 1 life positively today’. To do something new and productive that I have not done yesterday and to live and contribute in that day fully because I feel grateful every morning that I got another day to live.
Gratitude to God, for giving me another day to create a dent in the universe.
How do you manage yourself and keep on going despite the challenges? What drives you?
I always try to make sure that I empower the right people for the right work. This way I do not feel overburdened with work that leads to stress. I set my daily priorities, no one can archive everything together, so you have to set your priorities right.
In my free time, I try to travel, spend time with my family, and try to maintain my work-life balance as much as possible. Music helps me unwind and rejuvenate. My little kid teaches me how to be happy with small achievements.
Please share with us – what has worked well for you so far?
One thing I would say that helped me and my company grow is the ability to listen to our customers. We believe that customers are not interested in products but in getting their problems resolved.
The more we listen to them, the problems they face, the more efficiently and effectively we can resolve them. Secondly, the market never saturates with the good quality so never compromise on quality.
In your opinion what are the keys to success?
For me, the key to success is never giving up attitude and self-belief.
Do not let others define your future. You have the power to shape your life, do it now.
You are always positive and motivated, what keeps you going?
Anything you do in life you have to have a passion for and should not feel like work. My work is my passion. I get bored with the routine easily so the new challenges keep me on my toe.
I always feel, today was not good enough, there is a lot more to archive tomorrow.
We would love to know your advice for all those starting out?
Don’t be afraid to make mistakes and never give up. God only help those who help themselves.
