As part of our quest to get you meaningful and powerful stories from India and around the world, this weekend we invited yet another woman entrepreneur Karishmaa Nair Deora for an exclusive interview with BrilliantRead Media. She is the Founder and Chief Creative Officer of Antigravity, which is a leading video production house and content agency. Let’s read more about her inspiring journey, background and advice for our growing community!
Excerpts from our exclusive interview with Karishmaa:
We are aware of your contribution to the ecosystem, talk us through your background and your journey as a women entrepreneur, please;
My background and educational qualification are in design. Designing spaces. But I’ve always had a knack for writing and developing stories. My sense of aesthetics comes from having a strong design backing. Being observant and intuitive is a personality trait and in this profession, it’s an added bonus.
Design thinking is extremely useful not only in design concepts but applies in tactfully solving problems as well. By understanding human needs and re-framing the problem in human-centric ways. This approach assists even while preparing content for advertising and marketing purposes.
I’ve always believed in being an entrepreneur, and that’s been the focus. My husband and I commenced our preliminary operations of Antigravity at our homes on the laptop.
This created a few obstacles like understanding the audience and explaining the content to them. But with good quality content and an easy-to-work-with attitude, we garnered the right clientele. Kept it old school and bootstrapped. We believe in steadily progressing instead of speeding to a heightened state and bursting the bubble. The journey has been nothing but a learning experience and continues to be one every day.
What attracts you towards entrepreneurship instead of a corporate career?
It’s the challenge of solving a new problem every day. It may sound cliched, but the need to be nurturing something of your very own is the biggest driving force to be an entrepreneur.
When you build something from scratch and see it grow, through all the ups and downs is you get that desire to see it soar. I’ve also grown up and married into an entrepreneurial family.
‘Antigravity’ is such a unique name; talk us through more about it, please. Our audience would also love to know what kind of problem you are solving?
Unlike the gravity that pulls you down, We wanted to be that place that is free from that force and propel our clients’ businesses to soar via video marketing. Because if they win, we win!
What does your company specialise in?
ANTIGRAVITY FILMS: A “ONE-STOP-SHOP” OF VIDEO AND DIGITAL CONTENT PRODUCTION
Video marketing is a modern simplified method of promoting or advertising a product or service in a video on various digital platforms. The strategy plays a crucial role in boosting the promulgation of a particular subject among a huge audience.
Organisations heavily utilise this strategy to propagate themselves as a trending name in the market. Such a huge demand for a particular service requires a brand that specialises in creating spectacular video content for the company and its product. This calls out the name of Antigravity.
Situated in the financial capital of India the company stands as a specialist with the complete conglomeration of all the video marketing strategies.
During this COVID-19 crisis, what are the measures you have undertaken to continue your business without disruption?
Every challenge has to be faced head-on. This crisis also came as learning and we had to adapt soon to keep the business running. Change is always going to be name of the game. We not only turned this period into our advantage but we also grew stronger as a team.
We kept our overheads to a minimum and functioned as per our team requirements. A lot of focus shifted onto video content during this pandemic and corporates that weren’t keen on this marketing move jumped on board as soon as they saw the results being reaped by some of their competitors.
We saw the potential and moved as fast as we could. We also started providing economical solutions and faster turnaround times for our clients.
What are some of the strategies that you believe has helped you grow as a person?
Being instinctive and owning up to your mistakes.
Given the rapid pace at which the world is changing, what are the leadership traits that are necessary for success?
Being empathetic towards your team and listening to them is by far the most crucial element in any successful organisation.
Please share with us – what has worked well for you so far?
After a deep analysis of the market, we realized that innovation and trends have revamped the market. The corporate industry was venturing more on the social media boom whilst just warming up to video marketing.
This shifting phase was restating videos from being called an “advertising medium” to “content”. Statistics show that one-third of all online activity in the world is spent by watching videos.
Hence, the need of the hour was a specialist who could churn out more of this content in an economical manner without compromising in quality.
Our creative team always ensures to stay on point with current trends. Every content comes with a fresh perspective and aids in maintaining a standard in the market.
“If it isn’t done in time, it’s not done”- That’s our motto. We have systemised our process and teams in a format that can conclude projects with deadlines always marked.
Purpose cost implication and goal; these are aspects on which Antigravity strategies their projects and campaigns.
You are always positive and motivated, what keeps you going?
Well honestly, one cannot always be positive and motivated. But it is a continuous exercise that you should persevere to work towards.
My baby boy is my biggest inspiration to being positive in life and has taught me the lesson of being grateful. My husband and I make a great team in life and in business, maintaining the perfect yin and yang. There is this dire need of striving for excellence that serves as a big motivational aspect too.
What advice would you give students and young professionals who want to have a successful career?
It’s always advisable to own your mistakes. There is no better learning in life than to fail and analyse what went wrong.
Also, it is better to ask for help when you need it. Find out what makes you happy and gives you the right energy to wake up every day and follow the dream.
Just keep doing more of that and you will always be in the right place. Surround yourself with brilliant, inspiring people and listen to the experiences they share. You will definitely come out as the best version of yourself.
