As part of our ongoing interview series with promising womenpreneurs, we invited Mona Jalota – Founder & Managing Director at Krypton Global Investments. She is a passionate entrepreneur and a seasoned leader with over 10 years of experience in her domain. She worked with major corporate giants including the likes of Knight Frank India and Coldwell Banker India before starting her own venture. Her startup Krypton Global Investments (KGI) is a unique dedicated Indian platform designed to showcase International Properties, Migrations and Investments Opportunities. Let’s read more about her journey and her advice for women entrepreneurs!

Excerpts from our exclusive interview with her:

Tell us a little bit about your startup and your journey, please; 

I am the Founder & Managing Director for Krypton Global Investments. Prior to launching Krypton Global Investments, I was the Director, International and NRI Residential Services at Colliers International. As a seasoned Sales and Business Development professional with expertise in Local and International residential Real estate, I have worked with many multinational giants like Knight Frank India, Colliers International and Coldwell Banker India in my extensive professional career spanning over a decade.

Krypton Global Investments (KGI) is the first of its kind, unique dedicated Indian platform designed to showcase International properties, migrations and investments opportunities. KGI is my brainchild based on the extensive years spent in shaping the International real estate business in India. 

Why did you choose entrepreneurship over a job? 

To make a difference and create an impact and build my own community professionally! After putting in more than a decade of working with top international real estate companies, it was time to start my own boutique agency and thus “Krypton Global Investments” was launched formally in July 2018. 

 

The vision behind this brand is to create a seamless e-commerce platform for Indian investors to look at global opportunities in the residential/commercial and retail real estate space and other areas like Migration and acquisition of Business. The thought was to cater to the growing demand of Global Indians looking at alternative investments overseas and to offer them a 360-degree solution which included advisory in all aspects.

KGI is perhaps the first of its kind online platform dedicated to buying and selling of International Real Estate / Migration programs and business opportunities. 

How do you find the industry/niche that you’re in? 

The Industry found me!! My journey with selling International Properties began when I sold my own ancestral home in London. It struck me even then, on how seamless and effortless the transaction was. I eventually started my career with selling UK properties to Indian HNIs way back in 2007 and the journey continued since then. Despite holding senior management positions and having a vast body of work in the domestic sector, it was always my passion to market and sell International properties. 

What gets you out of bed in the morning i.e. what’s your source of motivation? 

The first thought that inspires me to get up every day is the fact that now apart from my own livelihood, I am also responsible for my high aspiring, enthusiastic and sincere young team. There is nothing that can stop you if you set your mind to it. It takes courage to give up a well-paying job to start something on your own. It motivates me to see that what I started as my individual dream has now become a collective dream of the Krypton team as they strive to excel and outperform themselves. 

What challenges/obstacles did you face in your journey so far? 

The journey so far as an entrepreneur has been more exhilarating than challenging! There have been happy challenges of setting up the business from scratch. From understanding how things work. How people work. What kind of operational strength you need. A lot of credit goes to my education at INSEAD which taught me to handle each and every aspect of running a business. The entire experience has been extremely humbling. The obstacles if any, were in my own mind which I was able to overcome very soon.

I have understood now, that as a part of the natural lifecycle of a business there will be good days & there will be bad days and every step is a means to reach my eventual goal.

How do you handle the pressure and manage stress? 

With the understanding that pressures and stressful situations would be part of the natural business cycle. To have an understanding & supportive team which is flexible enough on accomplishing the tasks also comes in handy. Apart from that, there is mutual trust & freedom which helps us to sail through stressful situations.

What is one strategy that you believe has helped you grow as a person? 

The one strategy that has always helped me grow as a person is to understand my relationships. My relationships – with my customers, my developers and my team members. I believe that you must have conviction in whatever you are proposing whether professionally or personally. If you are convinced about your business model, the product and how you are going to market it, it’s only a matter of time until you start meeting your goals. This philosophy has assisted me in my start-up & also in life.

If you are dealing with your sphere of influence in a fair and just manner and you are convinced about what you are proposing, with courage and conviction – that is always going to work. 

In your opinion what are the keys to success? 

Know your customer. Know your product. Learn to market it well. Be involved, every single day in each & every aspect of the business you are running. Be sincere, if you adhere to your sincerity, your vision will always become true! Our brand philosophy is “It’s a small world”, and we want to adhere to that vision by providing an uncluttered breakthrough platform to international developers who are keen on marketing and selling their properties in India. Similarly, we are focused to enable our Indian investors to look at various opportunities for investments/migration or business across the world. 

What advice would you give to someone starting out particularly women? 

My advice to all the women is – Be strong, Be strong & Be strong!

Understand what you need to do, get your finances in order, keep something for the rainy day!

Look out for support from friends & family. Support yourself. Spread your material wealth generously with everyone who has supported you during the journey whether it is your team members or support staff, your spouse or your family members. Let your earnings impact as many lives as possible!
