As part of our relentless efforts to identify and share some of the meaningful stories from India and around the world, this week we invited passionate entrepreneur Poonam Sachdeva for an interview with us. She is a change maker, influencer, leader, entrepreneur, motivational speaker and youtuber. She is the Founder of Spicy Sugars. Let’s read more about her inspiring journey so far and her advice for our growing community!
Excerpts from our exclusive interview with Poonam:
We are aware of your contribution to the ecosystem, talk us through your background and your journey, please;
I did my schooling from Queen Victoria Girls Inter College and further pursued Bachelors of Science from the Renowned Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar University. I was a passionate individual from the beginning and always aspired to be one of the youngest achievers by delivering high performance in all walks of life.
A bright student from the very beginning used to participate in dramatics and debates in school competitions and in inter-school competitions too.
Yes, I got married soon after my studies but my husband gave me full wings to fly and to live my dreams though I was not so clear till that time about my passion. So I gave full time to my daughter and son to make them wonderful citizens in every aspect.
I found my interest in doing some meaningful events in my town Agra through my beautiful journey. Yes, I put some efforts to do something really good for our planet too by doing two very meaningful fashion show (doing fashion shows is also my forte) on sustainability with a beautiful concept with kids and couples which gave a powerful message of Reduce, Reuse and Recycle the Old clothes and It was a big hit.”
As we all know factories of clothes pollute our environment a lot and through these shows and message we try to make a difference in society!
How did you discover your passion?
Finally, I found my passion when I got a chance to be a contestant in the biggest show in our Country KAUN BANEGA CROREPATI. I was so willing to go for this show from the very beginning of this show, I tried every year and got the chance after 14 years of this show has started.”
Was very happy, studied a lot so that I could give all the answers when I would be on the Hot seat. But my bad luck or because of my slow speed, I could not reach the Hot seat. It was really a setback for me. I was very disappointed after coming back from Mumbai.
But finally, I got the road of success from my failure only. I did not want to waste all the knowledge which I gained at the time of preparing for this game show so I did so many quiz shows in different clubs with renowned couples of the town, old ladies and kids too. After that, I never looked back!!
Made a club of 200 ladies by the name of SPICY SUGARS (as I feel a woman should be the perfect balance of spice and sugar). In this club, we invite guests from different fields to give a good talk on their perspective fields. Makeup Artist, a senior journalist from Economic Times, Bollywood Actor, Cyber Adviser, Nutritionist, Vastu Expert and so many have become a part of our shows till now. As I was always good at speaking from my school time.”
So I got one more passion as a motivational speaker at the time of Lockdown in our country and made my YouTube Channel by the name of DIL SE DIL KI BAATEIN which, thankfully has been monetised too last week!
With so much going on, how do you start the day to keep your passion alive?
As I’m always very clear in my mind that what I have to do now and I enjoy every bit of my work.. so Whatever is going outside doesn’t affect me inside. Reading and writing are both my passions. I write the content of YouTube videos myself too and try to find the solution to every problem.
Mindfulness makes I am calm and patient inside. And as I love doing something new every day, this habit of mine makes me productive and creative at every stage of my life. My aim is not to reach any destination or stop myself at any point. I’m always ready with a question to myself- now what Next? So I’m enjoying every step of my journey that way.
How do you manage to keep going despite the challenges? What drives you?
Don’t be a slave to people’s thoughts of you. It is a dangerous thing to lose your sense of belonging, self-identity, and uniqueness. Why not be different from the people or others around you? So I have created my own path and branding and I’m still fighting against all odds by embracing my true self. There is nothing more beautiful than that.
For a true kind of happiness and success—we must know how to be different from others. In a world of 7 billion people with different interests, faces, sizes, dreams, goals, beliefs, and choices— why not embrace our true uniqueness?. Be proud that you are not a copy of someone. Brand yourself to attract the right things and people to you.
And I always remember one thing that Imperfection is the truth behind every single person we see around. So I never stress myself to become the best. In fact, I try to be my Best version every day and believe me, I’m very much happy with my internal growth which drives me on the right path with full enthusiasm and confidence!
Who do you believe has been the biggest source of motivation in your daily life?
With a very clear mind, I will say, Yes, it’s my husband who gave me full space to grow and make my own identity!! He is my source of inspiration plus my biggest critic too. My family, my daughter who stood by me in all ups and downs of my journey and so many people who are doing something really great for society motivate me too to be the Change in this World!
What are some of the strategies that you believe have helped you grow as a person?
There are a few:
1- First thing is to stay humble. I have a long way to go still, but each day I remind myself just how small I am in this amazing world around me and that helps me to stay humble
2 – Learning something new every day makes me creative and productive!
3 – Giving some time to SELF CARE is one of my biggest assets.
4 – And the most important thing is I Love Myself. My Fulsafa- khud se pyar karoge tabhi kisi aur ko pyar kar sakte ho!
Please share with us, how do you motivate your clients?
Well, I must say that my clients are my friends, my family and my beautiful audience who love to listen to me.. who believe in me with full faith. So my motto is to make them happy and satisfied with my good deeds.
And I try to be humble and understanding with each one of them. I try to attract them with my positive attitude and by spreading happiness and positive vibes, I believe I can make an optimistic change in their lives too.
You are always positive and motivated, what keeps you going?
First of all, I start and end my day always with some productive thoughts, which make me feel positive throughout my whole day. My SELFCARE routine makes me energetic as I do Yoga every day with 15 Surya Namaskara (including both sides it’s 30) and pranayama too.
My “Me time” is very very important for me in which I read and write something totally from Dil Se 💕💕 and this creative exercise gives me immense happiness. I try to find out the solutions instead of cribbing about petty things and my daily evening walk Is a must for me and gives a beautiful and content feeling when I connect myself with the environment.
My skincare routine is my daily regimen which fulfills my skin’s needs. And last but not the least is to give a smile to at least one person in a day and finally paying gratitude for all the beautiful blessings of my life and all these things give me peaceful sleep at night!
In your opinion, what are the keys to success?
Well, for me the keys to success are:
a) Believing and loving myself.
b) Staying humble to reach new heights.
