Let’s read more about her!
Here are the excerpts from our exclusive Interview with her:
Where did the idea of The Spunky Mom come from?
When I got pregnant with my first one I was overjoyed and like any educated woman, I spent my time reading a plethora of books, joining the prenatal classes eating well and going about learning the natural ways to deliver and raise the kid. I had researched so much that I started documenting my journey in a journal writing it with a pen. This was the time in 2015 when Instagram was at its nascent stage. Post delivery, with all the knowledge in hand, I found to be giving out advice to fellow mommies and friends. I also found out that I was experimenting a lot with my style of parenting and it was no doubt fun roller coaster for me. After a year of being a parent, I decided to pour my thoughts on Instagram and that’s when the spunky mom was born. It is a separate account from my personal account and till date, none of my friends knows about my expedition on Instagram as a mom influencer. I named my account ‘The Spunky Mom’ because it resonates with me. I am a mom who is fun, courageous, determined, humorous and adventurous and all in all the spunky mom!
Why is Health & fitness important?
Honestly, I was never into health and fitness before pregnancy because you tend to your body for granted. Once you deliver; you get to know the real strength of your body. After my first born, I had gained immensely. I was 80 kgs when I delivered. Lost few kgs but regained during my postpartum phase – thanks to heavy Indian diet post delivery! I was feeling unfit and lethargic and used to have no energy to get through the day! That’s when I decided to take my health under control. I lost 20 kgs in a span of one year through good diet and exercise. I saw my stamina increasing and also started feeling fit and energetic. I strongly believe that being fit and healthy is the key to happiness
What gets you out of bed in the morning i.e. what’s your source of motivation?
My family and my work is my source of motivation. Of course, there are days when I am supremely tired and want to stay put and take a break from all my responsibilities but then spending quality time in the morning hours with my kid and my husband uplifts my mood and I am ready to go to the office with vigour and new zeal. Also, I treat each day differently. I have realised that each new day gives you immense opportunities to pursue and follow your passion. So I take one day at a time and follow my dreams and goals.
We know it is not easy, So what challenges/obstacles did you face in your journey so far?
It’s a cluttered space. If you look around everybody wants to be a blogger. Also not to mention there is a cut-throat competition amongst all of them. There are many good mom bloggers in India and I look up to them for inspiration. The challenges that I face is that people on Instagram crave for instant popularity, however, it took me 2 years to cross 10k organic followers. So there were times when I thought to myself why am I doing this? But more than the recognition or the number of followers, my reason to be on Instagram was to connect with fellow moms and also it was my outlet for my writing and musings which kept me going as I kept on curating content.
Tell our audience more about your failures? How should one bounce back? Your advice –
There is no short-cut to success. Also, I feel if you enjoy something you will never feel that you have failed. I enjoy writing and curating content about motherhood or my kid so I never felt I was failing. Sure my followers were not much. I didn’t have a lot of brands contacting me and I am still very selective about what I take up. But if you enjoy what you do you wouldn’t consider it as a failure. You’ll consider it as a learning.
What comes first for you – money or emotions?
Obviously, I’m a person driven by emotions. Money is important but I don’t do things just for money. I need to believe in something and should feel right about it then only can I put my recommendation on it.
How do you handle the pressure and manage stress?
Well, we all know that being a working mom is not easy. One has to juggle a lot of things. However, the way to balance I feel is – to understand one’s limitation. Nobody is a superwoman and therefore the earlier we understand, the easier it is to handle pressure and combat stress. We all make mistakes and it’s ok to make mistakes or falter. I don’t keep very high expectation with myself and just go about doing my usual stuff. If I can’t do it I acknowledge that I am unable to do it and I need to take a break or ask for help. This behaviour helps me to handle pressure a lot.
What is your advice to all the mothers?
I don’t have any advice for moms. Each mom is wonderful and motherhood no matter how crazy, challenging, messy it looks, in the end, the satisfaction is immense and the journey is incredible for all the moms with their little ones. So enjoy the phase because they won’t be little forever! Happy mother’s day to all my fellow mommies 😍
