Excerpts from our exclusive interview with Shweta:

Could you please talk us through your background and your journey?

I am an architect by profession and have been in this industry for over 2 decades. I was born and brought up in Nagpur however I have been working in Mumbai. I started my firm Shweta Deshmukh and Associates in 2010.

I have been working on weekend homes, farmhouses, Commercial and residential interiors such as incubation hubs, Coworking spaces and luxury residences in south Mumbai. Our startup – dezinebox started in 2019 along with my husband.

We have come a long way post-COVID in our startup journey. We were part of the YC startup online school, startup leadership program and we were incubated of NSRCEL IIM Bangalore. We are also featured in Forbes India and Fortune India apart from many other magazines .

I was a part of Conference ‘Athena’ organised by GIIS, Singapore for “Women in STEAM” to encourage more girls/women participation in STEM as one of the panellists.

How did you discover your passion?

I was good at sketching & drawing. I used to make a lot of portraits when I was a kid. My uncle motivated me to pursue architecture and that’s it. I made it as my dream.

Who do you believe has been the biggest source of motivation in your daily life?

Apart from my uncle my parents and moreover my daughter Trishula! Being a nature lover I get a lot of inspiration from it.

What are some of the strategies that you believe have helped you grow as a person?

Discipline and hard work are the greatest virtues of all on the path of life
I think there is no tomorrow. Whatever you plan to do should start today and now. However, you also should have the grace of your guru and god.

I firmly believe I am blessed to have received it. So we all should have that one drop of spirituality in us. It has helped me evolve as a better human being .

In your opinion what are the keys to success?

We should never be afraid of dreaming big. Perseverance and determination are going to help you achieve these dreams.

I was an epileptic child. So I had some traumatic imprints of my past. But I always kept that fire alive in my heart to prove to myself that I can do what all others can do!

What advice would you give to our readers?

Please use your obstacles as your stepping stone. And yes whenever you hit the bottom you should be happy. Guess why? When you sink deeper and deeper in your problems ONLY then you go in the opposite direction with rocket speed! Take some meditation as a tool that would help you gather more clarity in life.
