Excerpts from our exclusive interview with Simrat:
We are aware of your contributions to the ecosystem; talk us through your background and your journey, please;
Let me introduce myself, I Am Simrat Bohra, a celebrity & personal Stylist. I was a medical student. I hopped from that to fashion. I pursued a fashion Styling course from the London School of TRENDS, London. Came back and interned for a digital magazine for a few months.
Then joined M&S Bandra that’s Marks and Spencer as their personal stylist. I was there for 8 months & from there I started getting celebrities. Even after working for celebrities I always had that inclination to cater for women & men who really need my services.
Who has so much potential in them but just because they lack self-confidence or have body image issues or are just not sure about their style. Hence, I launched my brand as a personal stylist. It gives me immense pleasure to share that I have clients from Mumbai, Delhi, Berlin and London from different walks of life doctors lawyers CEO entrepreneurs.
How did you discover your passion?
Frankly, I never thought that I had the fashion in me because as a kid and teenager, I was always told to study & get the best marks which I couldn’t. I was a very average student. As I grew, I became overweight plus I am brown in colour trust me, it’s not easy being a brown overweight sikh girl.
As a result, I lost my confidence even thinking about fashion. But when I was thinking of launching my brand I thought to myself “Why do I want to do this?” and eventually, I got my answer “I want to help people like me”.
I understand, what it feels like to not live to your full potential. Trust me, to live that you need confidence and your style plays a significant role in your confidence.
How do you manage to keep going despite the challenges? What drives you?
> I meditate
> I read, I love reading
> I love receiving knowledge
> I listen to great people like:
– Oprah Winfrey
– Steve Harvey
– Simon Sinek
– Rachel Rodgers
– Priyanka Chopra
– John Asaaraf
> I pray
> I believe
> I journal
All days are not the same. But particularly on my low days, I take extra care of myself. One thing I believe in firmly If you want it bad enough, never give up.
Who do you believe has been the biggest source of motivation in your daily life?
My biggest fashion motivation has been my father. He’s the most handsome man I have ever seen & he has the most amazing style sense.
He is the one to make me understand the importance of looking good. Apart, I have been very blessed to meet some strong personalities in my life like My Mentor Lauren Messiah.
What about your journey makes it satisfying/exciting?
The fact that I love what I do. Fact that, I look forward to my client’s projects. Fact that, when I style my clients there’s a personality & confidence shift, the happiness it gives me is priceless.
What are some of the strategies that you believe have helped you grow as a person?
~ They say what happens between plans & execution is life.
~ I believe mind work is very important & please don’t wait for a bad incident to happen to work on yourself.
~ I believe it’s okay to feel exhausted mentally physically and emotionally and when you do it’s time to pause and rest. Without worrying about race.
~ What’s meant for you will be yours. So don’t overstress, overthink & beat yourself.
In your opinion, what are the keys to success?
(1) Be Consistent
(2) Know the difference between hard work & smart work and use it accordingly
(3) Remind yourself every day how badly you want it
What advice would you give students and young professionals who want to have a successful career?
When it comes to being A stylist as a career young students in college are very attracted to glamour. Little do they know the hard work & patience that’s needed in this field
So when you enter this field get ready to see the other side of this world first which is no glamour but a lot of hard work.
