Sneha is the Co-Founder of Insync Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation. Let’s learn more about her incredible journey, her background, and her advice for our growing community!
Excerpts from our exclusive interview with Sneha:
We are aware of your contribution to the ecosystem, talk us through your background and your journey as a women entrepreneur, please;
I did my schooling from Thane and further pursued physiotherapy from KLE University, Belgaum.
This is where I developed a strong fascination for the human body and also realized how powerful physiotherapy can be, in the field of healthcare.”
I’ve always been in pursuit of knowledge on the human body ever since and completed my-post graduation in orthopaedic manual therapy.
During this time, I learnt various hands-on skills and techniques which help to accelerate healing. When I started treating my patients with all the knowledge I acquired – what happened after, left me in wonder. People who just couldn’t find relief for decades, people who had exhausted all other remedial options, people who had given up – recovered and transformed over a short period of time, as if by magic.
But, instead of gloating, I set into a journey of deep analysis. To further understand the science behind what I previously termed as “magic”. I actively involved myself and led a few research studies among which, one was awarded in an international conference held in Mumbai.
The more knowledge I acquired, the more I got passionately committed to the field of Physiotherapy. By textbook definition, physiotherapy deals with the physical aspect of well-being through physical treatment methods. But I’d say that’s just simplified.
When you’re in the actual arena, you realize physiotherapy can touch an individual beyond the physical dimension. Once this realization struck, we wanted to reach out to more people in need and provide them with excellent quality care.”
And that’s when my partner, Abey Rajan and I founded Insync Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation.
What attracts you towards entrepreneurship instead of a corporate career?
I chose entrepreneurship because I believe my ideology on healing and the rehabilitation process I follow is quite unique. I wanted a platform where I could utilize my knowledge to the best of my abilities.
There have been numerous people I can’t thank enough for inspiring me to get where I am today. There have been a few instances over the years in my experience that have been tremendously eye-opening to me, but that talk is for another day. But what it made me realize was that entrepreneurship was the best way to create the impact I intend to make.
‘Insync Physiotherapy & Rehabilitation’ is such a unique name; talk us through more about it, please. Our audience would also love to know what kind of problem you are solving?
Over the years of our experience, when my partner and I realized that physiotherapy was way more than dealing with the physical aspects of the body, it made us realize that we cannot isolate any “aspect” of the human body after all.
The human body is connected from head to toe, from outside to within. Healing always happens overall. Healing always has to be holistic. This idea helped us break the chains of textbooks and personalize the healing process according to our patient’s life journey.
We actively ensure to shed the patriarchal approach to healthcare and involve our patients from start to end, in their healthcare decision-making process. It’s imperative to us that the physio and patient, together as a team, put their 100% dedication and commitment to the patient’s recovery.
So the word Insync works both ways – being “insync” within your own body (mind, body, soul) and being “insync” as a team (patient and physio) with the recovery process.
During this COVID-19 crisis, what are the measures you have undertaken to continue your business without disruption?
As Insync was born during COVID, we were more concerned with the health risks. Being a healthcare business we ensure a highly hygienic workplace with all safety protocols.
We also plan in-clinic appointments with strict timings so there is 0 waiting period and appropriate social distance in the clinic.
To continue without disruption, we promote online physiotherapy as well as strength & conditioning sessions to clients who prefer that model where we utilize a highly sensitive and specific battery of tests to reach an accurate diagnosis and plan an efficient treatment protocol.
How do you manage to keep going despite the challenges? What drives you?
My happiness comes from the transformation I see in my patients. To hold their hand, to be their support when their life seems to be falling apart; To be that empowering light in times of darkness is a responsibility I am honoured to fulfil every day.
I really resonate with this quote by Brene Brown – “It’s not the critic who counts. It’s not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles or where the doer of deeds could have done it differently. The credit belongs to the person who’s actually in the arena…”
This taught me to choose courage over comfort. To choose to be brave.
I also believe in work-life balance and ensure that I manage my day effectively so I have time to myself, to pause and disconnect for a while, every day. This helps me to remain balanced within and be the best version of myself.
Majorly, I believe in self-reflection and positive self-talk because you have to be your greatest support. Being hard on yourself never benefits anyone but we subconsciously end up doing it anyway. It is important to have clarity within yourself and a simple pause for a few minutes, every day helps with that tremendously.
Please share with us, what does your company specialize in? What has worked well for you so far?
At Insync, our physios deal with pain management as well as conditions affecting muscles, bones, ligaments, tendons, fascia, nerves and so on. Moreover, we have high-performance specialists who provide targeted strength and conditioning to athletes at the recreational and elite levels.
We place great importance on recovery and hence also provide services such as sports massage, stretching etc.
In our profession, we spend a great deal of time with our patients. We believe that listening to them is one of the prime components to providing efficient healthcare. The more we pay attention to the fine details, the more we understand the problems they face and the goals they want to achieve.
Our service does not end in a 1-hour session. It extends beyond that through constant research, critical analysis and improvisation so that each session is utilized to its highest potential. Based on all the information, we specifically personalize their plan of care so as to target their limitations.”
This process helps us to create a powerful change. A change that enables our patients, empowers them – to believe in themselves, to believe in their immense potential. Once this sets in, there is no stopping them. It helps them to conquer their fears, limitations and self-doubts. So where do we come in this picture? We help to change their perspective from “I can’t do it” to “I did it!”
What are some of the strategies that you believe have helped you grow as a person?
There are some core principles that I work on each and every day:
> Always learning from every circumstance I’m in
> Choosing courage over comfort
> Practicing mindfulness and humility
> Self-love
In your opinion, what are the keys to success?
There might be many, but for me, a combination of consistency, dedication, hard work and discipline are the quintessential elements to success. It requires great courage and strength to just show up each day, no matter what.
Another key I can’t emphasize enough is to create well-defined boundaries in all fronts of your life.
What advice would you give students and young professionals who want to have a successful career?
This conversation limits how much I can communicate about this on this platform. However, one piece of advice would be to never stop learning.
The human body is one of the greatest mysteries on this planet. Things we don’t understand, we term it a miracle; whereas truth is – it’s just the path to a new discovery. Stay humble, ethical and dedicated.
